WHAT IS CSE?

What is CSE?

Don’t be scared of the title – CSE stands for Child Sexual Exploitation.

Sexual exploitation can happen if you are in an unhealthy relationship. It’s a form of sexual abuse where offenders use their power – whether physical, financial or emotional…

You may not realise that you are being exploited. You may feel they have no choice but to be abused. It’s not your fault, and it’s not okay. You may be tricked into thinking you are in a normal relationship ( link to unhealthy relationships page) , before being emotionally and sexually abused.

Different Kinds of Exploitation

CSE can take many forms.

It can happen in person, online or via mobile phones. Young people are usually ‘groomed’ and then sexually abused - they are tricked into thinking they are in a safe and normal relationship so they may not know it’s happening.

They may post or send images of themselves in return for some kind of payment, such as money, gifts or even just a sense of belonging.

Then the ‘relationship’ changes. Offenders use their power – whether physical, financial, or emotional– over the child to sexually or emotionally abuse them.

Do you know the signs of child sexual exploitation?

It’s everyone’s responsibility to protect children
