I can’t believe it. I’m on the sex offender's register for the rest of my life but I really didn’t mean to do it. She said yes. So I thought that was OK. But it wasn’t.
Kerry had been really quiet before, and I didn’t really notice her. But all of a sudden she was really confident, and wore really expensive clothes. I saw her drinking a bit on street corners and being more outgoing. She got loads for her 16th birthday, and she looked so much older all of a sudden.
One night I was walking home from football and she came over, gave me a cigarette and we started talking. She was alright; she looked a bit tipsy but not too bad. She asked me if I wanted to go behind the club, that she’d look after me, you know, like that, if I gave her my fags. One thing led to another, and I even asked her if it was okay and she said yes.
Turns out that I raped her. I raped her because she was drunk and so she couldn’t make a rational choice. She went to the Police when she asked me for more fags and I said no.
I wish I’d never got involved…
I wish someone had helped me to understand consent more – because yes sometimes doesn’t mean yes.
